Mindy Kaling Pays $9.55 Million for Frank Sinatra’s Malibu Beach House

Mindy Kaling just purchased a home with an interesting history. The Mindy Project star reportedly dropped $9.55 million for a Malibu beach house that previously belonged to none other than Frank and Barbara Sinatra. The two-story oceanfront estate spans 5,824 square feet, and comprises seven bedrooms and nine bathrooms. Designed by architect Ted Grenzbach, the dwelling features elegant tile and hardwood floors throughout, with plenty of built-in shelves. The main living area on the ground floor is an open floor plan with a chef’s kitchen, formal dining area, and living room with a grand fireplace all within view. A wet bar just off the dining area is uniquely accessible from either the inside or the outside, an entertainer’s dream.

The master suite, located on the second floor and accessible via an in-house elevator, is massively proportioned, with a roaring fireplace flanked by two built-in bookshelves on one end, a separate sitting area, access to an ocean-facing private terrace, and two bathrooms. A steam room and hair salon complete the suite’s many offerings. Out back, a spacious patio, a plunge-size swimming pool and spa, and a landscaped, grassy green yard lead down to 40 feet of beach frontage via a private pathway. The Sinatras originally purchased the property for $3 million back in 1990, but ended up demolishing the existing cottage and creating the custom-built home it is today. Following Frank’s death in 1998 and Barbara’s in 2017, the residence hit the rental market in July 2018 for $110,000 a month.

Kaling is also the owner of a colorful home in Hancock Park, and she previously owned two other Los Angeles–area houses. The A Wrinkle in Time star offloaded her Hollywood Hills home for $1.61 million back in 2017, and sold her 1920s-style Beverly Grove home for $1.955 million in 2018.
