Mineral City committee, architect meet about proposed park project

KEY ACTION: The park committee met with Dave Patterson of Motter and Meadows Architects of Canton about a proposed park project.

DISCUSSION: The park committee agreed to proceed with applying for grants for the project. The cost has not been determined. A layout of the complete project was presented to council. The plans are to install basketball and pickleball courts, a restroom, new pavilion, a soccer field, playground equipment, a walking trail, and a barbecue grill. The project may need done in phases if the cost is too high to complete the entire project at one time.

In another matter, council accepted the resignation of Councilman Jan Slutz, effective Oct. 13. He cited personal time restraints as the reason for his resignation. Any resident interested in serving on council should call the village hall at 330-859-2222 or attend the 7 p.m. Oct. 27 council meeting.

OTHER ACTION:

  • Authorized the Tuscarawas County Emergency Management Services to use the Mineral City Fire Department building as an overnight disaster location.

  • Held a lengthy discussion concerning a rental house on High Street that is in disarray and needs to be condemned or renovated. Emergency personnel has been called to the site and expressed concerns of safety issues. Council authorized the zoning committee to continue with any and all actions it might need to proceed with condemning the house. The owner has failed to comply or meet the safety requirements for the property.

  • Heard the village website will be updated with zoning information and forms.

FOR YOUR INFO:

  • Trick-or-treat will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Oct. 29. Those participating should turn on a porch light and children should be accompanied by an adult.

  • The zoning committee will be sending registration letters notifying rental property owners that landlords are required to register all tenants residing in their rental properties.
