Minerva alumni to add four to Hall of Fame

Minerva High School’s Alumni Hall of Fame plans its 2022 induction ceremony for June 11 at Minerva United Methodist Church’s Wesley Hall.

Set for induction in 2022 are James F. Arrasmith, Class of 1959; Rev. Ronald Lee, Class of 1959; Laurie McClellan, Class of 1971; and Donald Stafford, Class of 1959.

Reservations to attend the event are due by May 31. The ceremony will include a family-style roast beef dinner. Activities will kick off at 6:30 p.m.

Class of 2022 biographies

James F. Arrasmith – Arrasmith earned a bachelor of science in biology from Mount Union College and a master’s in biochemistry. He was a master of martial arts, earning a doctorate under the advisement of Dr. Master Andrew Tamper. He spent 46 years in martial arts training and was a martial arts instructor for hundreds of students and law enforcement officers. Within the Village of Minerva, he served as president of Minerva Public Library Board, director of the Chamber of Commerce, and was a staunch supporter of the Minerva YMCA.

Rev. Ronald R. Lee – Lee graduated with honors from Mount Union College and earned a master of divinity from the Lutheran Theological Seminary in Philadelphia. Lee had advanced certification in conflict resolution, and his career often focused on the renewal of congregations in conflict and decline. He also had success as a charitable fundraiser, with an article in the Wall Street Journal lauding his ability.

Laurie McClellan – She earned a degree from Kent State University in radiology technology, and was then employed as a radiology technologist at Alliance City Hospital and Westwood Urgent Care Center. In 1987, McClellan joined the Board of Directors of Consumers National Bank. In 1998, she was appointed chairman of the board, and under her leadership, the bank increased its assets from $131 million to $500 million. McClelland is active in community service supporting the Minerva Area Historical Society, Minerva Area Community Charitable Trust, Habitat for Humanity, Minerva 20/20 Vision, Minerva Relay for Life, Kent State University Salem, Minerva/Alliance Red Cross, and the Minerva YMCA.

Donald E. Stafford – Stafford earned a bachelor of arts and a bachelor of science from Kent State University. He also graduated from the U.S. Army officer training program in 1965 and the U.S. Army Aviation Training Program in 1966. Stafford graduated from advanced helicopter training and was assigned to Vietnam as a pilot of a Huey helicopter. While in Vietnam, he was involved in a serious crash that demolished his helicopter, and later was rescued from the jungle. Another time, he was shot down by Vietcong machine fire. Stafford returned to the states and became a flight instructor at Fort Rucker, Alabama. He retired from the military in 1990 after serving his country for about 25 years. In 2008, he received the master pilot award from the Federal Aviation Agency for 50 years of civilian flying without an accident.
