Minerva boys, girls cross country teams win OHSAA district titles at Cambridge meet

CAMBRIDGE DIVISION II

The Minerva boys and girls cross country teams won district championships on Saturday at the Cambridge Division II meet.

The Minerva girls, the defending Division II state champions, took four of the top five places to win convincingly with 29 points.

Hera Hoffee won the individual district championship for the Lions with a time of 19:08.63. Caitlyn Hopple was second in 20:07.25. Annabelle Crissman (20:40.49) and Kayle Crissman (20:48.20) were fourth and fifth, respectively.

West Holmes was a distant second place with 67 points. Minerva will advance to the Pickerington North regional meet next week.

Carrollton finished in the top six as a team and advanced. Carrollton took third with 93 points.

Maddie Burgett was the top individual finisher for Carrollton (20:19.90) with a third-place finish.

The Minerva boys took first place with 46 points and will advance to the Pickerington North regional. Grasyn Rettig came in fourth in 17:05.27 to lead the Lions.

Indian Valley took second place with 85 points.

Also finishing in the top 24 and advancing as individuals were Carrollton’s Andrew Lane (18:16.66) and Ricky Sibila (18:18.39) with 20th place and 21st place finishes, respectively.

CAMBRIDGE DIVISION III

The Tusky Valley boys and Sandy Valley girls won district championships on Saturday at the Cambridge Division III district meet.

The Cardinal girls (65 points) narrowly held off Tusky Valley (70) for the district title. Kaydence Hoover (21:10.40) was ninth individually to lead Sandy Valley. Trista Lieser (21:02.43) was fourth for the Trojans.

Both teams advance to next weekend’s Pickerington North Division III regional.

The Tusky Valley boys took the top two spots and won the district championship convincingly with 24 points.

Jake Kapper (17:20.27) and Teagan Perkowski (17:31.85) were first and second, respectively, for the Trojans, who advance to the Pickerington North Division III regional.

Also finishing in the top 16 and advancing as an individual was Malvern’s Seth Kandel (18:40.31). He took 13th place.
