Minister of Economy, founder of Hospitallers battalion, and others: 4 Ukrainian women were included in Time 100 Next list

Four Ukrainian women have entered the annual Time 100 Next ranking, which determines the most influential people who are changing the future of the world.

In particular, the list includes Daria Kaleniuk, Executive Director of the Anti-Corruption Action Centre; Minister of Economy Yulia Svyrydenko; Yana Zinkevych, the founder of the Hospitallers Medical Battalion; and Anastasia Volkova, an innovator in agriculture.

The 2023 ranking was published on Time’s website on 13 September.

Yulia Svyrydenko was ranked in the Leaders category; Anastasia Volkova made it to the Innovators category; and Daria Kaleniuk and Yana Zinkevich were listed as Advocates.

Yulia Svyrydenko is First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy of Ukraine since 4 November 2021.

US Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo noted that she was "impressed and truly inspired" by Yulia’s strength, endurance, brilliance and courage.

"With a deep knowledge of economics, a passion for leveraging Ukraine’s assets in everything from agriculture to green tech, and a fierce opposition to corruption, Minister Svyrydenko is dedicated not just to rebuilding Ukraine, but also to developing a strong, free, and prosperous Ukrainian economy," Raimondo said in a statement to Time.

Daria Kaleniuk is a Ukrainian public activist, executive director of the Kyiv Anti-Corruption Action Centre, and co-founder of the International Centre for Ukrainian Victory.

Time says she has become a leading voice of civil society in defence of Ukraine.

"Daria Kaleniuk first gained prominence fighting corruption in Ukraine—a major impediment to the country’s democratic project. But Russia’s full-scale invasion forced the country’s most prominent anticorruption activist to shift focus," Time writes.

Kaleniuk was also noted for shedding light on Russian war crimes and exposing oligarchs and companies that profited from the war that is being waged by the Russian Federation.

Yana Zinkevych

Yana Zinkevych is a veteran of the Russian-Ukrainian war, a volunteer medic, the founder of the Hospitallers Medical Battalion and a member of the parliament of the IX convocation.

"For nearly a decade, Yana Zinkevych has been instrumental in saving Ukrainian lives on the front lines. The 28-year-old military veteran is the commander of a Ukrainian civilian medical battalion known as the Hospitallers—not to mention one of the country’s youngest members of parliament," the article says.

In 2014, Yana Zinkevych interrupted her university studies to help the wounded servicemen and subsequently founded the Hospitaller medical battalion.

Time writes that Zinkevich saved more than 200 wounded soldiers until she was injured in 2015.

"Under her leadership the group has assisted and evacuated thousands of service people and civilians. But over the course of this year, the Hospitallers have raised more money for their dedicated training centre with specialized equipment, where Zinkevych’s team can ready the next generation of volunteer paramedics," the media says.

Anastasia Volkova

Anastasia Volkova is a Ukrainian innovator in agriculture and CEO of Regrow Ag (Flurosat), which provides technological services to agricultural businesses.

"The climate crisis will impact everything, including the food on our plates. To adapt, the agriculture industry needs to both monitor emissions and adopt sustainable farming practices that will reduce them. Fortunately, there are visionaries like Anastasia Volkova," Time writes.

Anastasia's company develops software for agricultural companies, including General Mills and Kellogg's, helping to reduce emissions.

The co-founder of Galvanize Climate Solutions says Volkova is "revolutionising the approach to food production" and helping make the future more secure.
