Minnesota Aurora advances to USL W League championship game
Minnesota Aurora’s debut season has yet to come down to Earth.
The amateur women’s soccer club named after the atmospheric aurora borealis advanced to the USL W League championship game with a 1-0 semifinal win over McLean (Va.) Soccer at TCO Stadium in Eagan on Sunday.
Morgan Turner, a Maple Grove native, scored the winning goal in the 50th minute. Her left-footed strike from distance was her club-leading eight goal of the season.
Aurora will play the winner of Greenville Liberty-South Georgia Tormenta; they play at 6 p.m. Sunday. The USL W League championship game is July 23.
Aurora, unbeaten in 12 regular-season games, topped Indy Eleven 2-1 in the quarterfinals on Wednesday. Turner has come off the bench to score in the last two playoff games.
