Minnesota elections 2022: House District 45A Candidates

House District 45A

Lauren Bresnahan

  • Age: 40

  • Party: DFL

  • City: Orono

  • What qualifies you to hold this position? I was a 4-H and MN public school kid. I earned my PhD in Applied Economics before specializing in inflation for the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office and advised businesses nationally on the economy. I am running to make sure our kids have the opportunities I did: a quality education, safe schools, and a robust economy for their future.

  • What would your top priorities be if elected? I grew up with the Minnesota values of caring for our neighbors, protecting our environment, and giving back to our community. I chose to raise my kids here so they could have the same opportunities I did. I am running for State House to build on those opportunities so that every family has access to good jobs, good schools and good health care.

  • Politics has become very divisive in recent years, if elected, what would you do to improve the tone?
Partisanship is moving us backwards. Obstructionists have squandered a budget surplus to play games instead of investing in our schools. I am not a politician. I am a mom and an economist. I will use a data-driven approach to lead with facts and figures to find common ground to continue investing in our kids.

Andrew Myers

  • Age: 43

  • Party: GOP

  • City: Tonka Bay

  • What qualifies you to hold this position? I am a small business owner, attorney and trained mediator. For the past 12 years, I have served my community as a Planning Chair, City Council Member and a Parks Chair. Over that time, I have worked with my community to cut wasteful spending, rebuild aging infrastructure and bring people together to provide meaningful solutions for the district.

  • What would your top priorities be if elected? I will support priorities in the district including Mounds water issues, Highway 7 safety concerns, supporting the Excelsior Commons, author legislation that makes Minnesota more affordable for all families, support public safety and our dedicated law enforcement officers and build an educational and mental health system for all of our children.

  • Politics has become very divisive in recent years, if elected, what would you do to improve the tone?
Both professionally and in my public service work, I have a proven record of bringing people together. I will continue to treat my public service as a marriage, where no one party gets everything, but we accomplish something both sides agree on. I will listen and continue to let the community invest in decisions made for the district.
