  • What qualifies you to hold this position? I’ve lived in Scandia for 35 years and raised a family here. Being retired, I have time to offer being a part of guiding the future affairs of our community. Having served as a council member the past 4 years and public service for another 32 years I have experience that is beneficial in this position.

  • What would your top priorities be if elected? Public Works and Public Safety. Maintaining our streets and roads for safe travel. Wisely planning for and funding what is needed to provide a level of safety for the members of our community. Also, maintaining Scandia’s rural character and protecting the features of why our residents live here.

  • What do you think is the primary role of government? Overseeing the hiring of staff and allowing them to do their job. Assisting them in being responsive to what the community needs. Being fiscally responsible by making decisions that don’t unnecessarily burden our taxpayers.

Michael Lubke

  • Age: 36

  • What qualifies you to hold this position? I serve on the Scandia EDA & Planning Commission. As an engineer, I have structured problem-solving experience with three fortune 500 companies. I have public service experience as university student president & served on the Strategic Planning Committee, co-chaired the Tech Fee Committee & oversaw planning & budget of the student union renovation.

  • What would your top priorities be if elected? 1) Finish high-speed internet expansion, leveraging state & fed grants
    2) Support law enforcement & efforts to stop rise in theft
    3) Fairly address failing shared sewer systems
    4) Hold solar companies accountable to committed screening requirements
    5) Maintain healthy tax base by supporting local businesses, leveraging programs through the EDA

  • What do you think is the primary role of government? Provide basic needs such as public infrastructure while responsibly allocating tax payer dollars to maintain a safe and thriving community.

Donald Baber

  • Age: 66

  • What qualifies you to hold this position? I’ve lived in Scandia for 21 years and the surrounding area since 1960. I have worked in the twin cities metro area as a union heavy equipment operator for 38 years before retirement. I have experienced many types of construction and upgrades during that time as well. I listen to people and can work together to serve the citizens of Scandia.

  • What would your top priorities be if elected? Work together with the city council to finish projects that are under way now, make our community attractive to small businesses, and advocate to spend taxpayers money wisely.

  • What do you think is the primary role of government? To manage and maintain public safety, to ensure that the citizens are well served, including police and fire protection, keep our streets and public recreation maintained, and spend taxpayers money wisely, just to name a few.
