SENATE DISTRICT 33

Karin Housley

  • Age: 58

  • Party: R

  • City: Stillwater

  • What qualifies you to hold this position? I am a mom, grandmother, and wife to my husband Phil for 37 years. I am also a small business owner. As your state senator over the last ten years, I have worked hard to get good things done for the people of Minnesota. I have had many bills passed protecting our elderly, supporting law enforcement, lowering taxes & prioritizing our kids education.

  • What would your top priorities be if elected? 1. Public Safety – I’m endorsed by our police because I know more cops equals less crime. We MUST keep our streets safe. 2. Help Minnesotans afford their life by lowering their taxes and health care costs and eliminating the state tax on social security. 3. Putting Students First – Fund literacy programs, mental health grants and school safety.

  • What do you think is the primary role of government?I have an open-door policy and have built a reputation of working across the aisle with all parties – Democrat, Independent & Republican. The conversations are robust and respectful, but we accomplish a lot. I am proud to say that I work with many different organizations, agencies, and stakeholders, and I would love to continue doing it.

Nancy McLean

  • Age: 60

  • Party: DFL

  • City: Stillwater

  • What qualifies you to hold this position? My background as a small business owner, corporate professional, mental health provider, and community leader gives me the skills and experience to successfully navigate the challenges facing my district and the state.

  • What would your top priorities be if elected? My top priorities are an economy that works for all of us, access to affordable healthcare for all Minnesotans, protecting women’s rights to make decisions about their own reproductive healthcare, funding education so that each student has what they need to thrive and succeed, protecting our environment, and ensuring safe communities.

  • What do you think is the primary role of government? We’ve seen a loss of civility in politics. I commit to being civil and respectful with my colleagues and constituents. As a mental health professional, I know how to work with people of differing opinions to build consensus. Respecting and listening to others can help me work across the aisle to achieve results that help my constituents.
