Minnesota Vikings waive QB Stanley

Jul. 19—The Minnesota Vikings waived quarterback Nate Stanley on Tuesday, bringing the Menomonie native's time with the franchise to an end.

The Vikings drafted Stanley in the seventh round of the 2020 NFL draft. The former Menomonie High School and Iowa standout spent his first season as a pro on the team's practice squad, and was on injured reserve for all of last season.

Stanley never appeared in a game for the Vikings. He was cut from the team's 53-man roster in his rookie campaign before being added to the practice squad. He was waived again in 2021, this time with an injury designation which allowed him to be added to the team's injured reserve after clearing waivers. He spent the fall coaching at his alma mater in Menomonie.

The 24-year-old was a three-year starter at Iowa, where he ranks second in school history with 68 career passing touchdowns and 8,302 passing yards. Prior to his time in Iowa City, he set records in the same categories at Menomonie.

Tuesday's move leaves the Vikings with three quarterbacks on their roster: Starter Kirk Cousins and backups Kellen Mond and Sean Mannion.
