Minor injuries reported in CTA ‘L’ train derailment early Saturday on Kennedy Expressway, police say

Traffic was reopened on the Kennedy Expressway Saturday morning after a CTA Blue Line train derailed, Chicago police said.

Shortly before 1:50 a.m. Saturday, police were called to the 4600 block of West Montrose Avenue, the Montrose station of the Blue Line, for a southbound train that derailed, police said.

At least 25 passengers had to be evacuated and four adults were removed from the train and taken to Swedish Covenant Hospital with minor injuries, police said.

One lane of traffic in each direction was closed while Illinois State Police investigated.

Police said the incident was due to a rail switching error that caused the first car to derail.
