Minor injuries to students and drivers after school bus and minivan crash in Pascoag

BURRILLVILLE — No one was seriously injured, but firefighters prepared for the worst-case scenario Thursday morning immediately after a minivan collided with a school bus carrying 18 children.

Pascoag Fire Department Deputy Chief Rich Peck said that early in the response dispatchers requested mutual aid from rescue units from as far away as North Scituate. The rationale was to get additional rescue units rolling because travel to the remote area wouldn't be short.

At the scene on Camp Dixie Road, police officers found two children and both drivers with minor injuries, said Burrillville Police Maj. Albert Carlow.

Each of them was able to walk to a rescue vehicle, said Carlow. Sun glare appeared to be a factor in the crash, added Carlow, who had no additional information to provide.

Peck said the other children were brought to schools for evaluation. Five were taken to various hospitals.

"It appears that every injury was very minor," he said.
