Minor injuries in two weekend hit-and-run crashes

BRANCH COUNTY — Area law enforcement are looking for the drivers in two hit-and-run crashes over the weekend that resulted in minor injuries.

The first occurred Friday night around 8 p.m. at Lester and South Ray-Quincy roads in Algansee Township.

A southbound Ford Windstar struck an Amish buggy. One of the two people inside was injured. The vehicle fled south after the crash.

“The vehicle is believed to be an early 2000s Ford Windstar, dark blue/gray in color, with fresh front end damage," Michigan State Police Trooper Jacob Sherwood said. "The vehicle is missing the right passenger’s side headlight assembly.”

The second hit-and-run happened about 10:40 p.m. Saturday at Four Corners on U.S. 12 in downtown Coldwater when a vehicle hit a bicyclist at the northeast corner.

Investigators believe a westbound black or dark-colored four-door sedan struck the bicyclist. The rider was thrown clear of the bike.

The crash was captured on the city’s streaming video. The bike lodged under the car and was dragged for several blocks before the car drove off.

The cyclists suffered minor Injuries and refused treatment at the scene.

Names of the injured were not released.
