Q: What product or services does your business provide?
A: We offer prosthetics and orthotics, including artificial arms, legs, and all types of braces for knees, arms, back, etc. We also offer mastectomy products for women who have been through breast cancer.
Q: What inspires you and why?
A: I worked at Shriners Hospitals for 10 years and saw so many amazing kids with all types of orthopedic issues – amputations, accidents, congenital conditions. I got to see every day how they lived their lives fully with the help of prostheses and/or bracing. My husband has been an amputee since the age of 15, so he is passionate about helping people get back to full and active lives after a devastating accident or diagnosis.
Q: What challenges have you faced and how did you persevere?
A: There is a fairly small pool of qualified practitioners. Prosthetics/orthotics is a field that most people just never think about unless they, a friend or family member needs services. Since we get paid by insurance companies, that is always a challenge. We try to always provide our patients with the device that works best for them. Unfortunately, the insurance companies don’t always agree, but we advocate for the patient to help them get what they need.
Q: What advice do you have for other women in business?
A: If you are in a predominantly male profession, hold your own. Don’t underestimate yourself. If you are doing what you love, it shows and your customers will return. Our patients’ opinions matter so much! Your customers are why you do what you do, so take care of them – just like you would want for your family! We are grateful for each patient and the other healthcare professionals we work with who are also dedicated to compassionate, excellent patient care!
