Wood began his bus tour with a stop at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 360, with subsequent visits to the Diloreto Club, Sun King Brewery, De Amicis and the BK Club.

Wood, a Republican, became mayor in 2010 after being chosen to finish the term of fellow Republican Mayor Jeff Rea, who resigned to become the executive director of what's now the South Bend Regional Chamber of Commerce.

Prior to serving as mayor, Wood served on the Mishawaka Common Council.

In his tenure as mayor, Wood touts the city's primary focus on public safety. Since Wood took over in 2010, he said, the number of crimes reported have decreased in 10 of his 12 years in office, except for 2016 and 2018.

He also credits a small population increase during his years as mayor as a sign of the city's growth. The city has grown about 6% in the decade of the mayor's tenure, according to the 2020 U.S. Census.

"We will always stay focused on the fundamentals of what makes Mishawaka great, yet have an eye focused on not just what is but, more importantly, what can be for all of our families — a strong, vibrant Mishawaka today, tomorrow, and into our third century," Wood said.

No opponent has yet announced an intention to run against Wood.
