Miss Iowa 2022 Bailey Hodson is competing for a greater good at this week’s Miss America pageant in Connecticut.

Hodson won the Social Impact Pitch Award during a Dec. 13 preliminary round at the Miss America competition, held at the Mohegan Sun casino in Montville, Connecticut.

The Berwick native, who is a former Urbandale teacher, won the $1,500 scholarship for her bullying prevention proposal during night two of the competition.

Hodson, 24, told the Des Moines Register in June that her social impact initiative during this year’s pageant competition is “The ABCs: The Anti-Bullying Campaign.”

The social impact pitch is a “Shark Tank”-style round in front of judges that allows the panel to understand how a Miss America candidate will use her platform with a larger audience.

Hodson, who won the Miss Iowa title in early June at Adler Theatre in Davenport, was honored on night two of the pageant alongside Miss Wisconsin Grace Stanke by current crown-holder Emma Broyles, the first Miss Alaska to serve in the role.

This year marked Hodson’s fourth competing in the Miss Iowa pageant, which included a first runner-up finish in 2019.

The 2023 Miss America titleholder will be crowned during the pageant’s finals at 7 p.m. on Dec. 15 at PageantsLive.com.
