Miss Texas to visit Midland

Jan. 23—Miss Texas, Averie Bishop, will visit Midland Tuesday.

Bishop will be speaking to local students emphasizing the importance of reading and education.

A first-generation law school graduate and the first Asian-American woman to represent Texas, Bishop has taught programs to hundreds of schools, mentored thousands of children and traveled more than 40,000 miles for speaking engagements and appearances across the world, including the Permian Basin.

She will be at Bunche Elementary, 700 S. Jackson St., at 8 a.m.; the Young Women's Leadership Academy, 1800 E. Wall St., at 8:45 a.m.; and Emerson Elementary, 2800 Moss Ave., at 2 p.m.

The Literacy Coalition of the Permian Basin and West Texas National Bank are the sponsors.
