Missing 2-year-old Oklahoma boy found dead Monday in Okfuskee County

OKEMAH ― A 2-year-old boy, missing in Okfuskee County since early Monday, was found dead later that day, police say.

Ares Muse had been last seen around 1:30 a.m. Monday near state Highway 56 and East 1100 Road in Okemah, according to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol. Law enforcement officials said he was wearing black footie pajamas with orange and green dinosaurs.

The Muscogee Nation Lighthorse Police Department led the investigation, assisted in the search by more than 20 additional tribal, state and federal agencies. A spokesman said the search team found Muse dead around 6 p.m., less than a mile from his Okemah-area home.

Investigators have not yet determined a cause of death for the boy, according to a spokesman for the Muscogee Nation.

"Though we didn’t get the outcome we wanted, we appreciate their effort and the prayers from all the people today," Muscogee Nation Principal Chief David Hall said in a statement. "We grieve with everyone who knew and loved this boy."
