Missing boater found dead two days after dispatch to Caloosahatchee River, FWC says

A boater was found dead Tuesday short of two days after he went missing, authorities say.

Around 9:30 p.m. Sunday, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission received a report of a missing boater on the Caloosahatchee River, in Alva.

The FWC, along with the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, Hendry County Sheriff’s Office and the Alva Fire Department, responded to the scene.

Hailee Seely, spokesperson for the FWC, said in a statement the boater was found dead Tuesday afternoon.

"This is an active boating investigation, and we will provide an update when it becomes available," Seely wrote.

Seely said no further information will be shared until the victim's next of kin has been notified.
