Missing child hospitalized after being found in Florida pond after nearly drowning: police

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — An 18-month-old boy is currently hospitalized after he wandered into a pond and was found not breathing after he went missing in Port St. Lucie, according to police.

The Port St. Lucie Police Department responded to a home in the 1200 block of Southwest Bellevue Avenue on Thursday after reports of the child being missing.

According to NBC affiliate WPTV, the boy’s grandmother was watching him while the father was at work and the mother went out for a walk. An initial investigation led officials to believe one of the child’s siblings likely opened a door, which is when the child got out.

Officials found the boy in a pond adjacent to the home after nearly drowning, and CPR was immediately administered by police and local fire personnel.
