Missing man's body found in Coosa River near Whorton Bend

The body of a 20-year-old Gadsden man missing for more than a week was found Wednesday by fishermen in the Coosa River near Whorton Bend, according to the Gadsden Police Department.

Bryan Jeremiah Stamps had been missing since his 2002 Honda Accord was found parked at 11:50 p.m. April 4 in the westbound lane of the Meighan Boulevard bridge. The car's engine was running but with no driver inside. His family filed a missing person report on Friday.

Police and family members had been searching for Stamps, and boat crews had been searching the Coosa River in the area of the bridge since Sunday.

The case remains under investigation, according to a news release from the GPD.

“I want to thank our first responders for their efforts in searching for and recovering this individual’s body,” Gadsden Mayor Craig Ford said in a statement. “It is a difficult outcome to process, and we pray for the family and all involved. I encourage everyone to look out for your neighbors and loved ones. You never know what someone is experiencing.”
