Missing Portsmouth man has been found safe; senior alert canceled

Virginia State Police has announced that a senior alert for 65-year-old Jimmy Orlando Carney has been canceled. He has been found safe.

Carney is 5 feet tall and 120 pounds. He was last seen at around 2 p.m. Wednesday at the 3100 block of High Street, and police say he was seen “getting into a gray Mitsubishi SUV driven by an unknown male.” He was last seen wearing gray pants with a black stripe, black tennis shoes, a blue jacket and a brown hat that has “moonshiners” on the brim. His eyes are brown, and he is bald.

Portsmouth police said Carney’s medical conditions posed an increased risk for his safety. Carney has a Project Lifesaver bracelet on his arm, which provides identification and allows for radio technology to be used in search and rescue efforts. He is also a dialysis patient, and police say he has the mental capacity of 2-year-old.
