Missing submersible: Is Triton Subs in Sebastian involved?
The most intriguing story to stimulate the world's collective imaginations has been the search for the missing submersible. Since Sunday morning, the search has been on for the Titan, a submersible containing five people and reportedly running out of air supply that was on its way to visit the wreck of the Titanic when something went wrong.
For people on the Treasure Coast, their imaginations immediately turned to the Sebastian-based submersible builder, Triton Submarines, wondering if the company had built the submersible being searched for. Later, readers called TCPalm staff asking if they were involved in recovery efforts. No on both counts.
Here is a statement provided by Triton Subs:
"During the early hours of Monday June 19, Triton Submarines was notified about the situation developing in the northern Atlantic at the wreck site of the RMS Titanic involving a submersible manufactured and operated by OceanGate in Everett, Washington, USA. Naturally, this news is of the deepest concern to all in the underwater community and we hope for the safe recovery of the crew involved in the incident. Triton is closely monitoring the situation and is fully committed to providing whatever assistance may be required," read a statement provided by Triton's Heather Hauswirth.
