Mission: Impossible 8, or Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part Two, has been delayed by almost a year.

As detailed in The Hollywood Reporter, studio Paramount has been readjusting its schedule to accommodate for the lack of films in the pipeline due to the writers' and actors' strikes in Hollywood. The SAG-AFTRA strike is still ongoing.

As a result, Dead Reckoning Part Two has been pushed back from June 28, 2024 to May 23, 2025.

A Quiet Place: Day One has been moved from March 8 to take up that June 28 slot.

Production on the second part of the latest Mission: Impossible had paused production so the actors could promote Part One, and the actors' strike was implemented before the cast could return to filming.

Part One under performed at the box office in comparison to the previous three entries, releasing just before the cultural phenomenon of Barbenheimer, with Christopher Nolan's Oppenheimer also taking over a lot of the IMAX screenings.

Speaking to Collider earlier this year, director Christopher McQuarrie teased a huge underwater sequence in the sequel.

"We've done underwater sequences previously... and we were left very dissatisfied," he said. "What were all the factors against us? The biggest being, not having real knowledge in that area.

"Everything you're looking at in Dead Reckoning is the application of knowledge from previous sequences."

Elsewhere, Paramount has moved an untitled SpongeBob SquarePants movie from May 2025 to December 2025, and brought Ryan Reynolds and John Krasinski's If forward by a week to May 17, 2o24.

Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning, Part One is available to buy now on DVD, Blu-ray, and 4k, and can also be purchased digitally.
