Mission Muttfest draws more than 1,300 people

On Sunday afternoon, more than 1,300 dog owners and their furry friends from across the community came out for the 28th annual Mission Muttfest.

The annual event is a chance for dog lovers to get their pets out for fun and to raise money for the Amarillo SPCA.

Though windy and hot, the event brought around 75 vendors and The Eagle radio station was on hand to keep the humans entertained and help with the pet contests.

“We have some very loyal supporters who come out every year, rain or shine” to support us, said Mary Ramirez, event coordinator.

Food trucks, free samples, low-cost vaccinations, free microchipping and many other services were made available to help pet owners.

“We have built the event from a small get-together at Sam Houston Park to one of the Top Three Festivals and Fairs in Amarillo," said Nell Williams, a coordinator and volunteer of 20 years with the Amarillo SPCA.

All proceeds go to Amarillo SPCA’s no-kill shelter on South Coulter. The Amarillo shelter is wholly dependent on local funding and is not affiliated with any national group.
