Driver kills MS Coast pedestrian walking near road. Incident not a hit-and-run, police say

A Mississippi Coast woman died Tuesday night after a driver struck her on Bienville Boulevard in Ocean Springs, authorities said Wednesday.

Julie Trosclair, 49, of Ocean Springs was killed while walking near the road, Jackson County Coroner Bruce Lynd Jr. said.

Ocean Springs police responded about 8:16 p.m. to the westbound lanes of Bienville Boulevard and Carolyn Road, they said in a news release. Officers and emergency responders tried to save Trosclair but she died at the scene, the release said.

Two vehicles involved in the accident stopped on the right shoulder, Ocean Springs police said Wednesday afternoon.

Earlier Wednesday, Lynd called the accident a hit-and-run. Ocean Springs police instead called it a “pedestrian death” and said they did not suspect foul play. The release did not explain how both vehicles were involved in the accident.

The accident is still under investigation.
