There will be one race on the primary ballots Tuesday. U.S. House of Representatives District 4 includes most of south Mississippi.

The district changed slightly to accommodate changes in the state's population following the 2020 Census.

Gov. Tate Reeves approved the Legislature's new district lines earlier this year as part of a process done every 10 years following the U.S. Census report of population shifts.

District 4, which represents south Mississippi, changed slightly. It includes Forrest, George, Greene, Hancock, Harrison, Jackson, parts of Jones, Lamar, Pearl River, Perry, Stone and Wayne counties.

Incumbent Steven Palazzo will face six other Republican candidates in the primary.

According to the Mississippi Secretary of State's office, there are also two Democrats and one Libertarian seeking the office.

The winner of the Democratic and Republican party primaries will be added to the ballot for the Nov. 8 general election with Libertarian candidate Alden Johnson.
