STARKVILLE — One of the fiercest rivalries in college sports takes center stage at 1 p.m. Saturday as Mississippi State basketball hosts Ole Miss in a game televised on CBS. It's a matchup featuring a pair of teams in need of a win.
Mississippi State has fallen from a top 15 ranking last month. The Bulldogs (11-3, 0-2 SEC) have lost their last three after starting the season on an 11-game winning streak. The latest loss came Tuesday as Tennessee handled MSU en route to a 87-53 win.
For Ole Miss, the nonconference wasn't as successful, but SEC play has been just as brutal. The Rebels opened the conference slate with a loss at home to Tennessee before suffering a 22-point loss at Alabama on Tuesday.

As the Rebels and Bulldogs take the court, there will be a new face roaming the sideline for the first time since Ole Miss hired Kermit Davis in 2018. MSU first-year coach Chris Jans, who replaced Ben Howland, is looking to take home his first win against the Rebels and start the home-and-home series with a win. The last time MSU won the opening game of the series was in the 2015-16 season.
