STARKVILLE — In desperate need of a breakthrough win, the opportunities continue to flow in for Mississippi State basketball. Coming off a tight loss at No. 2 Alabama, MSU returns home to face No. 11 TCU on Saturday (3 p.m., ESPN2) as part of the SEC/Big 12 Challenge.
The Bulldogs lost 66-63 to the Tide on Wednesday, marking their fifth loss by single digits. Mississippi State has fallen victim to a blowout only once this season, in a trip to No. 4 Tennessee.
However, with each tight loss, angst continues to build. Mississippi State (12-8, 1-7 SEC), ranked in the top 15 a month ago, is falling further out of the NCAA Tournament picture with each missed opportunity. First-year coach Chris Jans said every game feels like a must win, and the matchup with the Horned Frogs is certainly that.
TCU (16-4, 5-3 Big 12) has won two straight, including a 23-point win at No. 9 Kansas a week ago.
