Mississippi State basketball score vs. Pittsburgh: Live updates from March Madness First Four game

DAYTON, Ohio — Mississippi State basketball's return to March Madness starts earlier than most. MSU is in the First Four − a play-in round to advance to the first round.

The Bulldogs open play Tuesday (approximately 8:10 p.m., truTV) in Dayton, Ohio, against ACC foe, and fellow No. 11-seed, Pittsburgh. The winner advances to face No. 6-seed Iowa State on Friday in Greensboro, North Carolina.

Mississippi State (21-12) is in the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2019. The Bulldogs are seeking their first win in The Big Dance since 2008.

Pitt (22-11) finished fifth in the ACC this season before losing in the quarterfinals of the conference tournament against Duke. The Panthers finished at No. 67 in the NCAA's NET rankings; the Bulldogs were 49th.

Pittsburgh is led by coach Jeff Capel III, who is in his fifth season. This is the program's first NCAA Tournament appearance in his tenure and first time finishing above .500.
