Mississippi State football flips 3-star defensive lineman Jacarius Clayton from Ole Miss

Mississippi State football earned a bit of bragging rights over Ole Miss on Wednesday's early signing day.

Jacarius Clayton, a three-star defensive lineman from Tupelo High School, flipped his commitment from the Rebels to the Bulldogs, providing another strong defensive piece in a class full of them.

The 6-foot-6, 275-pound pass rusher from Tupelo is the 12th-ranked player in Mississippi and the 38th-best defensive lineman in the country, per the 247Sports Composite. He had offers from Indiana, Arkansas and Arizona State, among others, although he had been committed to Ole Miss since July.

Before committing to the Rebels, Clayton was committed to Mississippi State. He told the Clarion Ledger in October that Ole Miss defensive line coach Randall Joyner was a major reason he considered heading to Oxford instead.

But Clayton flipped back to Mississippi State on Wednesday after a visit to Starkville last weekend, helping to solidify a strong defensive class.

Clayton was a defensive football player of the year nominee for the Mississippi High School Sports Awards, the Clarion Ledger announced last week.
