Mississippi State football lands Justin Robinson, a transfer wide receiver from Georgia

STARKVILLE — Mike Leach and Steve Spurrier Jr. landed another wide receiver who could be poised for a breakout season at Mississippi State.

Former Georgia wide receiver Justin Robinson committed to join Mississippi State on Saturday, adding a big-frame target who can play on the outside, similar to the role Makai Polk held.

Polk, who joined the Bulldogs and produced a record-breaking season, led the school in single-season receptions and receiving yards before declaring for the NFL Draft. Leach called Polk a major win from the transfer portal.

Robinson, a 6-foot-4, 220-pound pass catcher, was a four-star recruit out of McDonough, Georgia. While he didn't pick up an offer from Mississippi State his first go-around, Spurrier — the outside receivers coach in Starkville — was pivotal in convincing Robinson to join the Bulldogs' pass-heavy offense.

Robinson recorded just two catches for 18 yards and a touchdown in his redshirt freshman season at Georgia. He entered the transfer portal on Jan. 12 and needed just three days to announce his new destination.

With quarterback Will Rogers returning, much of the Bulldogs' offense is intact for the 2022 season. Wide receivers Jaden Walley and Austin Williams should continue to have big roles, while opportunities for Rara Thomas and Christian Ford will present themselves.

Robinson immediately slides into that conversation, becoming a receiver Rogers will look to develop a quick chemistry with.
