Mississippi State football vs. Auburn: Our final score predictions are in

Mississippi State football is hosting Auburn for a conference battle on Saturday.

The Bulldogs are coming off a bye week after suffering a dominating defeat to Alabama 30-6. Mississippi State will look to bounce back against the Tigers, who suffered a 41-27 loss to Auburn last week.

A win over Auburn will make a statement for Mississippi State, and keep the Bulldogs on track to earn a slot for a bowl game.

Mississippi State 35, Auburn 17: Mississippi State is a bad matchup for Auburn. The Bulldogs like to establish the run early, which shouldn’t be an issue against a struggling rush defense. MSU likes to build early leads and force opponents to get away from the run, which would be detrimental for Auburn’s offense. Mississippi State should cruise ahead of next week’s matchup with Georgia.

Richard Silva, Auburn football beat reporter

Mississippi State 34, Auburn 27: I anticipate the Tigers to come out and play hard for interim head coach Carnell "Cadillac" Williams, which keeps this game competitive, but the troubles of Auburn's offensive line and the proficiency of Mississippi State's passing game are two keys elements that I cannot overlook. I expect an entertaining game, but ultimately a victory for the Bulldogs.

Blake Toppmeyer, SEC columnist

Mississippi State 38, Auburn 20: The Tigers’ road to a rebuild began with their Monday firing of Bryan Harsin, ending his disastrous tenure. That doesn’t immediately change the fact, though, that this roster needs a significant talent upgrade. That’s a problem that can only be addressed in the offseason after Harsin’s replacement is hired. Mississippi State has been incredibly tough at home, and this offense feasts on mediocre opponents. Calling Auburn mediocre might be applying a label that’s too generous.

Mississippi State 34, Auburn 17: The game won’t be nearly as newsworthy as what preceded it.

By Monday, Auburn had fired Harsin and hired Mississippi State athletics director John Cohen. Unfortunately for the Tigers, they couldn’t work out a deal to acquire Bulldogs quarterback Will Rogers.
