Mississippi State women's basketball score vs. Creighton: Live updates from March Madness

SOUTH BEND, Ind. — Mississippi State women's basketball isn't done dancing. MSU took down Illinois in a matchup of 11-seeds Wednesday to advance from the March Madness play-in to the round of 64.

The next challenge is 6-seed Creighton. The Bulldogs and Bluejays meet Friday at Purcell Pavilion in hopes of advancing to the round of 32 on Sunday. The winner between host 3-seed Notre Dame, the host team, and 14-seed Southern Utah will await.

What was originally a grueling pod in the Greenville 1 regional is suddenly filled with uncertainty. Notre Dame All-America guard Olivia Miles will miss the remainder of the season with an injury, the team announced Thursday.

Mississippi State (21-10) hasn't advanced to the NCAA Tournament second round since 2019 when Vic Schaefer was at the helm. Under first-year coach Sam Purcell, the Bulldogs have won their first tournament game since 2019 and are hoping to add more.

Creighton (22-8) is led by a trio of players averaging more than 13 points per game − guards Lauren Jensen and Morgan Maly and forward Emma Ronsiek. The Bluejays went 15-5 in the Big East and picked up noteworthy nonconference wins against South Dakota State and Nebraska − teams that beat MSU.
