The Bulldogs are facing a major challenge, hampered with little depth on the roster because of injuries and two transfers. Interim head coach Doug Novak said in most cases, he'd rotate his teams more when facing back-to-back games. But that's not a realistic option, so Mississippi State will lean on the familiar faces it has used all year.
Forward Rickea Jackson is the main offensive force, scoring 25 points in a 73-66 loss to Troy on Saturday. The Bulldogs struggled from deep, hitting 20% of their threes in that contest.
Jackson State opened up the Mississippi State Classic on Saturday against South Carolina State. Center Ameshya Williams-Holliday has been the main force for the Tigers, entering the weekend with 16.4 points and 10.4 rebounds per game.
At 6-foot-4, Williams-Holliday could pose a tough matchup for the Bulldogs, who often use a small-ball lineup.
"We're gonna have our hands full," Novak said. "We need to regroup, we need to be mature and we need to move forward after this game."
