Mississippi tornado recovery: Free rooms available for Rolling Fork area disaster victims

Rolling Fork suffered devastation as a deadly tornado leveled much of the town on March 24 leaving many people without homes.

In response, donations are pouring in to help those impacted in Rolling Fork and other affected areas of the state. For those in the Rolling Fork area, a family which prefers to remain anonymous has provided 115 motel rooms in Greenville through April 2.

As of noon Monday, roughly 30 rooms remained available. Check-in is at 3 p.m.

Transportation will be provided to Greenville, but there is currently no shuttle service back and forth to Rolling Fork.

Resources for those impacted by March 24 tornado

According to MEMA, the following shelters are open.

  • National Guard Armory/Civic Center, 19719 US 61, Rolling Fork, MS 39159

  • Humphreys County Multipurpose Building, 417 Silver City Road, Belzoni, MS 39038

  • Old Amory National Guard Building, 101 South 9th Street, Amory, MS 38821

Individual assistance is available to residents in Carroll, Humphreys, Monroe and Sharkey counties and can include grants for temporary housing, home repairs, low-cost loans to cover uninsured property losses and other programs to help individuals and business owners recover from the effects of this disaster.

Residents in those counties who sustained losses during the March 24 severe weather can now apply for assistance by registering online at www.DisasterAssistance.gov or by calling 1-800-621-FEMA (3362) or 1-800-462-7585 (TTY) for the hearing and speech impaired.
