Missouri men's basketball releases nonconference schedule for Dennis Gates' debut season

The Dennis Gates era of Missouri men’s basketball will begin Nov. 7 at Mizzou Arena when the Tigers take on Southern Indiana.

Missouri announced its full nonconference slate for the 2022-23 season on Friday.

Southern Indiana finished last season 18-8 overall and 12-6 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. The Screaming Eagles’ season came to an end in the GLVC Tournament with a loss to UMSL.

In the third game of the new season, the Tigers will play an in-state opponent at home, with Lindenwood traveling to Columbia on Nov. 13. The Lions finished their 2021-22 campaign 12-17 overall, losing in the first round of the GLVC Tournament to William Jewell.

Another St. Louis-area team will pay Missouri a visit on Nov. 15, when Southern Illinois-Edwardsville takes on the Tigers. The Cougars struggled last year, limping to an 11-21 record and losing to Tennessee State in their first Ohio Valley Conference Tournament matchup.

Another schedule highlight comes Nov. 29, when Missouri will visit Wichita State. The Shockers went 15-13 last year and beat the Tigers 61-55 at Mizzou Arena along the way.

Next up after WSU will be a home game against Southeast Missouri State on Dec. 4. SEMO finished 14-18 in 2021-22, beating Tennessee State in the OVC quarterfinals before losing in the semifinals to Murray State.

Missouri has won all four of its matchups against SEMO dating back to 1997. The two teams last played in 2014, when the Tigers earned a 65-61 victory in Columbia.

One of Missouri’s biggest home crowds of the year is primed to assemble on Dec. 10, when reigning national champion Kansas comes to town. The Tigers traveled to Lawrence last season, where the Jayhawks handed them a 102-65 loss.

Missouri will travel to FLA Live Arena in Sunrise, Florida, on Dec. 17 to play in the Orange Bowl Classic against Central Florida. The Knights went 18-12 last season, falling to Memphis in the American Athletic Conference Tournament.

As was previously announced, Missouri will play the annual Braggin’ Rights game on Dec. 22 against Illinois in St. Louis.

The Tigers will round out their nonconference slate when they welcome Iowa State to Columbia on Jan. 28 in the SEC/Big 12 Challenge.
