Missouri State welcomes John Goodman, Tori Kelly for Homecoming celebrations

Missouri State University is welcoming actor John Goodman and singer-songwriter Tori Kelly to campus for Homecoming this weekend.

Homecoming celebrations begin the morning of Friday, Oct. 28 and continue through the evening of Saturday, Oct. 29.

Goodman and Kelly will make appearances at The Celebration, the concluding event of the university's Onward, Upward campaign. The campaign began in 2019 with the goal to raise $250 million for capital projects, programming and student scholarships.

Folks are invited to attend The Celebration at Great Southern Bank Arena on Saturday, Oct. 29 at 7:30 p.m. Goodman, Missouri State alumnus and campaign chair, will host the event.

The Celebration will also feature performances from Kansas City-based band KC FLO, Missouri State grand chorus, Pride Band, color guard and Grammy-winning singer-songwriter Tori Kelly.

Doors open at 7 p.m. for the free event. Missouri State merchandise will be given away to the first 2,500 guests.

Prior to The Celebration, students, alumni and family members are invited to enjoy a variety of other events throughout the weekend.

1972 50th Class Reunion

On Friday, Oct. 28, class of 1972 graduates are invited to enjoy a luncheon and campus tour. The reunion begins at 10:30 a.m. in Kentwood Hall.

Registration is required by Friday, Oct. 21. The cost is $35 per person. Register online at bit.ly/3Sf7H3q.

Wall of Fame Induction Ceremony

In the evening of Friday, Oct. 28, the 2022 Wall of Fame Induction Ceremony will be held in Plaster Student Union. The free event is 4-5 p.m.

This year's honorees include Yohannan Abraham, Dana Carroll, Lynn Cline, Jerry Hoover, Stephanie Marinec and David Oatman.

Missouri State's Wall of Fame is dedicated to former faculty and staff who have excelled at the university and contributed to its success and positive experience for students.

Band of Bears Homecoming Parade

Kicking off the big day of Homecoming celebrations is the annual Band of Bears Homecoming Parade. The parade takes place on John Q. Hammons Parkway, starting at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 29.

Breakfast with Boomer at Foster Rec

Following the parade is Breakfast with Boomer at the Foster Recreation Center from 10 -11:30 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 29. The family-friendly event includes breakfast and photo-ops with Boomer.

The family-friendly event is $15 for adults and $10 for children. Register online at bit.ly/3eL9sYo.

Golden Bear Reunion Luncheon

The annual Golden Bear Reunion Luncheon is Saturday, Oct. 29, beginning at 10:30 a.m. in the Plaster Student Union Ballroom.

The luncheon is free but reservations must be made by Friday, Oct. 21. Register online at bit.ly/3yTBF66.

Golden Bears are alumni who graduated or last attended Missouri State 50 or more years ago.

Football game, tailgate

Kickoff is at 2 p.m. for the Bears football game against Western Illinois on Saturday, Oct. 29. Purchase tickets at the Missouri State Athletics Box Office, by calling 417-836-7678 or online at bit.ly/3CPJcEa.

Bearfest Village opens before the game at 11 a.m., north of Plaster Stadium. Campus organizations and departments will have tents set up to visit.
