Ex-ASU golfer makes 3 eagles in one round, earns best PGA Tour finish

PGA Tour rookie and Arizona State grad Kevin Yu had three eagles in the first round of the Butterfield Bermuda Championship last Thursday. He's the first Tour player to do that in one round this season.

That only happened twice all of last season. Maverick McNealy did it at the AT&T Byron Nelson and Justin Rose did so at the RBC Canadian Open.

Yu didn't record another eagle the rest of the week but he did go 11 under on the par 5s over four days to earn a tie for third, his career-best finish on Tour.

"It's a solid week, for sure. Being here and hitting some good, really good golf shots out here," Yu said. "The wind is really big factor out here the last two days being really, really windy. Just being able to hit a lot of solid shots, hit some fairways, make some putts. It's a lot of fun."

Yu posted scores of 64-66-67-70 and finished at 17 under. He's made three cuts in a row in four events.

Influencer arrested for hitting ball into Grand Canyon

After knocking a golf ball into the Grand Canyon and appearing to lose her driver, an influencer who posted a video of the episode on TikTok now has charges and a court appearance pending.

That led to the National Park Service posting what appears to be a silly, but apparently necessary question on social media: "Do we really need to say, 'don't hit golf balls into the Grand Canyon?"

According to a post from the NPS:

"On Oct. 26, an individual posted a video to her TikTok page showing her hitting a golf ball and throwing a golf club into the canyon near Mather Point. Members of the public helped identify the individual's social media account.

"On Oct. 27, Grand Canyon Law Enforcement identified, located and contacted the individual responsible for the incident. Charges and a court appearance for the individual are pending."

The video was initially posted on TikTok and has since been pulled down, but was preserved on Reddit.

The canyon is 277 miles long and varies from four to 18 miles wide, so while it might seem like the space is vast, NPS went on to explain why this is unacceptable:

"Throwing objects over the rim of the canyon is not only illegal but can also endanger hikers and wildlife who may be below."
