HOLLAND — Is an electric lawn tool on your wish list?

Try before you buy at our Electric Lawn Tool Field Day! Holland Board of Public Works, along with Visser Ace Hardware, will host the Field Day from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. on Saturday, June 10, at Smallenburg Park, located at the corner of 16th Street and Fairbanks Avenue.

During the event, you'll have the opportunity to try out EGO and Greenworks electric string trimmers, leaf blowers, and lawn mowers — all products for which Holland BPW residential electric customers can receive a $25 to $50 rebate.

Visser Ace Hardware will have EGO merchandise at the event for purchase (credit cards only). 3Sixty will also be there to explain how to affordably rent an electric lawn tool or dozens of other household tools from its Tool Library.

As part of the Field Day, Holland BPW residential electric customers who purchase an electric lawn tool can recycle the same type of gas tool for an additional rebate of $25 to $100, for a total rebate of up to $150. Please drain your old tool of gas and oil before coming to the event.

Why are electric tools gaining in popularity? Have you ever stepped out to your backyard to enjoy some peace and quiet, but instead of the calming sounds of nature, all you heard was the roar of gas-powered lawn mowers, string trimmers, and leaf blowers? The noise of these tools can be annoying for you and your neighbors, not to mention hard on your hearing.

Besides being quieter than gas-powered tools, electric lawn tools are easier to maintain, as they require no mixing of fuels or changing of spark plugs.

Also, electric tools save money and energy over the long term, including a reduction in your carbon footprint. Plus, you no longer have to defer mowing on Clean Air Action Days, as electric mowers don’t produce ozone.
