Mitch McConnell will return to the U.S. Senate on Monday, more than a month after injuring himself in a fall.

“I am looking forward to returning to the Senate on Monday,” the 81-year-old Republican tweeted Thursday. “We’ve got important business to tackle and big fights to win for Kentuckians and the American people.”

McConnell, the senate minority leader, tripped and fell at a dinner event on March 8 at a Washington, D.C., hotel. He was hospitalized for four days and spent almost two weeks completing physical therapy.

McConnell suffered a concussion and fractured multiple ribs in the fall, according to his communications director, David Popp. He’s been working remotely since he completed rehab on March 25.

McConnell also fell at his Louisville home in 2019. He broke his shoulder in the incident but was treated and released from a hospital that same day.

In 2020, McConnell was photographed with bruised hands and a bruised lip but insisted he was fine. When asked at the time if he was dealing with any medical problems, he said, “Of course not.”

The veteran senator has represented Kentucky in the senate since 1985 and has led the Republican caucus since 2007.
