Mitchell Black splits doubleheader against Renner

Jul. 6—The Mitchell Black teener baseball team split the doubleheader against Renner Black on Monday afternoon, dropping Game 1 8-7, but won Game 2 6-2.

In Game 1, Mitchell was held to two hits, with one each from Tyler Sanderson and Conor Mattke. Hudson Borgan had two runs scored. The 14U Teeners trailed by a score of 5-0 before scoring one run in the sixth inning and six runs in the seventh to take a 7-5 lead. Renner answered with three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning for the walk-off victory.

Ben Wilber started and pitched five innings. He allowed four hits and five runs, and struck out two. Kelley pitched 1 1/3 innings for Mitchell in a loss, allowing four hits and three runs, striking out two batters as well.

In Game 2, Mitchell pulled away with two runs in the third inning and three more in the seventh inning to seal the game. Hudson Borgan had two runs and two hits, while Mattke drove in a pair of runs, including an RBI triple.

A.J. Wilber pitched all seven innings for Mitchell. He allowed four hits, two runs, and struck out one batter on 78 pitches.

Mitchell Black is now 14-16, and proceeds to play in a Sioux Falls tournament starting on Thursday, July 8.
