Mitchell cross country competes in Mitchell invite

Aug. 27—MITCHELL — Wild Oak Golf Course was the site of the Mitchell cross country invite on a rainy Saturday.

As weather rolled through the area, the meet went into a weather delay following the junior varsity girls run, suspending the meet for roughly an hour and a half and canceling the boys junior varsity. However, the competition wasn't a varsity-regulation race and no team points were kept.

The girls and boys varsity ran at the same time. Chamberlain's Kinsey Evan's came in first place in the girls competition at 15:50.22. The top four finishers for the girls race were all from Chamberlain. Miller's Pierce Baumberger won the boys race with a time of 13:58.43.

Hunter Patton was the first Kernel to finish, placing 15th overall and running the 4k in 15:49.44. Mitchell's Colin Pickett (17:29.02) and Austin Reimnitz (17:30.34) placed 46th and 47th, respectively, while David Sheets (18:00.22) finished 57th. Kane Grajkowske (19:34.09) and Abe Gunnare (20:13.94) also ran for Mitchell, finishing 78th and 82nd, respectively.

Middle schoolers Axel Reimnitz, who placed 79th at 19:44.94, and Ryan Driscoll, who placed 85th at 20:15.91, ran for Mitchell as well.

For the girls, Kennedy Olsen ran varsity and placed 21st for the Kernels with a time of 19:56.28, while middle schooler Averi Gerfen (21:57.12) placed 33rd. Londyn Schroeder came in second place in the junior varsity race, running the 3k in 12:52.49. She finished second to Platte-Geddes Berklee Mills (12:37.4).

Mitchell Christian also competed, and Silas Holdeman finished in fifth place at 14:57.5. Joseph Tegethoff (16:15.88) came in 24th, Luke Mentele (17:44.06) placed 52nd and Aidan Lessman (18:14.75) came in 62nd. The only girl to run for Mitchell Christian was Sydney McNutt, who placed 24th in the girls junior varsity race at 16:39.3.
