Mitchell girls tennis earns sweep at Sioux Falls Roosevelt

Sep. 6—MITCHELL — It was a clean sweep for the Mitchell High School girls tennis team on Labor Day, earning a 9-0 win over Sioux Falls Roosevelt at Kuehn Park.

Playing 10-game pro sets, Mitchell dropped only 12 games all day over the span of nine matches. At No. 2 singles, Delaney Degen won 10-0 over Roosevelt's Ella Cornett and teammed up with Amber Moller to win 10-0 in No. 1 doubles. The No. 2 doubles pairing of Carsyn Weich and Megan Mastel also won 10-0 in their match.

Weich and Elly Clement won 10-1 in singles matches at No. 3 and No. 4 singles, respectively. Moller was a 10-1 winner over Roosevelt's Allie Weber at No. 1 singles. Ireland Blindauer won 10-3 at No. 5 singles, Maddie Childs won 10-4 at No. 6 singles and Clement and Mia Larson won at No. 3 doubles by a 10-2 margin. As a team, Roosevelt fell to 0-8 on the season.

Mitchell, which dropped a pair of 5-4 duals with Yankton and Pierre on Friday, Sept. 2, bounced back with three wins at the Huron Quadrangular on Sept. 3, including 5-4 wins over Brandon Valley and Aberdeen Central and a 7-2 win over the host Tigers.

Mitchell (11-3) is back in action in Sioux Falls on Thursday, Sept. 8 with a 4 p.m. dual at Sioux Falls Washington.
