Mitchell High School announces athletic changes for Thursday due to heat

Sep. 7—MITCHELL — Mitchell High School announced changes for a few upcoming events on Thursday, Sept. 8.

Due to the forecasted high temperatures on Thursday, the girls tennis match against Sioux Falls Washington has been moved up to 9 a.m. at Hitchcock Park. It was originally scheduled to be played at 4 p.m.

Mitchell's volleyball match against Harrisburg was also moved from the MHS gym to the Corn Palace due to no air conditioning in the MHS gym. It will be the first Kernel regular-season volleyball match at the Corn Palace since Sept. 12, 2010 against Huron.

Freshman football has also moved its game against Brookings to 4:15 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 9.

The National Weather Service office in Sioux Falls is forecasting a high of 100 degrees on Thursday, with a chance of storms on Thursday night to potentially cool things off.
