Mitchell native Trevor Flemmer named new men's basketball coach at Presentation College

May 25—ABERDEEN — Trevor Flemmer, a Mitchell native, has been selected as the new men's basketball coach at Presentation College, the school announced Tuesday, May 25, 2022.

Flemmer is a 2016 graduate of Presentation College, and played on the Saints men's basketball team from 2012 to 2016.

"Not many people get the opportunity to coach for their alma mater and I am extremely excited to do so," Flemmer said in a school announcement. "I cannot wait to reconnect with Presentation College and the Aberdeen community and bring excitement back to not only the men's basketball program, but Presentation College as a whole."

Flemmer joins the Saints after spending four seasons at Dakota State University. He spent the first three years with the Trojans as an assistant coach, and was named the associate head coach for the 2021-22 season. Additionally, he was the head coach of the Trojans' junior varsity team.

The Saints were 13-15 in 2021-22, with a 6-8 record in the North Star Athletic Association and dismissed former coach Stan Holt in April. Flemmer will be the third PC men's basketball coach in as many seasons for the program.

"Building a great program takes time, but bringing in high character hard working people, from the staff to the student-athletes, will lead to sustainable success. I plan to build this program in a manner that will make Presentation College and the Aberdeen community proud to be Saints fans. Basketball is just an extension of the education process and will set up these young men to be successful in life when the ball stops bouncing," Flemmer said.

As a player at Presentation College, Flemmer appeared in 56 games, starting 26 of them. He averaged 3.5 points per game, and 2.8 rebounds per game. While playing for the Saints and earning a bachelor's degree in exercise science, Flemmer was named the NSAA Champion of Character award winner during the 2015-2016 season. He also previously worked as the Presentation team strength coach in 2016.

"I am really excited to have Trevor Flemmer returning to PC to lead our men's basketball program," Presentation Vice President for Student Affairs and Enrollment Management Marcus Garstecki said in a statement. "As a PC alum, Coach Flemmer understands the culture of the college and he will be a great leader for the student-athletes in our program. Trevor had a great playing career at PC, and since then, he has had the opportunity to build his coaching career working as part of some very strong programs in this region. Additionally, Trevor's familiarity with the NSAA and the teams that we compete against will help prepare our team night in and night out. I look forward to watching our team grow under Coach Flemmer's leadership. The future of Saints basketball is very bright."

Prior to his time at Dakota State, Flemmer was a graduate assistant at Briar Cliff University, during the 2017-2018 season when the Chargers made it to the NAIA Division II Men's Basketball National Tournament quarterfinals. Before that, Flemmer was an assistant coach at Riverland Community College for one season in Austin, Minn.
