Mitchell players claim titles at Take the Cake tennis tournament

Aug. 1—MITCHELL — Numerous champions were crowded at the Take the Cake doubles tennis tournament hosted by the Mitchell Tennis Association on Saturday, July 30 and Sunday, July 31 at Hitchcock Park. The tournament awards a cake or cupcake to the place-winners in the final matches of each bracket.

In the Chocolate Cake bracket, Tyler Loecker, of Mitchell, claimed the title in singles play with a 8-2 victory over Levi Loken from Mitchell. Sutton Thompson took third place with a win over Delaney Degen.

Pat Moller, of Mitchell, earned a 9-7 win over Kiersten Bathke from Mitchell to claim first place in the Marble Cake bracket. Mitchell's Nathan Wagner finished in third after a 8-1 win over Ireland Blindauer.

In the Red Velvet Cake bracket, Dylan Putnam, of Mitchell, claimed the title after beating Cooper Star 8-6 in the championship. Mitchell's Mia Larson took third with a 8-2 win over Maddie Childs.

Ava Prunty of Mitchell won the Ice Cream Cake bracket after a 8-5 over Elliot Smith. Amelia Konrad came in third place with a 8-3 win against Mitchell's Greyce Northrup.

In doubles play on Saturday, John and Seth Reimnitz won the German Chocolate Cake bracket with an 8-4 win over Mitchell's Chad Larson and Betty McNeil. Jade Miller and Skyler Mickelson, of Sioux Falls, claimed first in the Angel Food Cake bracket with an 8-2 victory over Easton Neuendorf and Sutton Thompson.
