Mitchell tennis players stand out in State Farm youth tournament

May 31—MITCHELL — In the annual Becky Moore State Farm Junior Tennis Jamboree, the Mitchell High School girls and boys tennis team stood out against its peers.

Coming into a tournament that consisted of 29 players and featuring players from Yankton, Aberdeen and Rapid City, the Mitchell players won three of the four singles brackets while also sweeping the doubles competition on Saturday, May 28 at Hitchcock Park.

Luke Jerke in the French Open bracket, Cooper Star in the Wimbledon bracket and Clay Bathke in the Australian Open round robin, all took home first-place medals in the singles portion of the tournament. Rapid City's Kaiya Parkin was the first place first-place in the U.S. Open bracket.

Levi Loken, Amber Moller and Dylan Putnam earned second-place finishes while Zach Fuhrer and Megan Mastel both ended singles play with third-place finishes.

In doubles play, Levi Loken and Matthew Mauszycki took home first-place honors in No. 1 doubles with Mick Dailey and Zach Fuhrer taking second. No. 2 doubles was won by Katie Morgan and Cooper Star, as they beat Dylan Putnam and Kaden Putnam in the championship round. Delaney Degan and Amber Moller were also crowned first-place winners in No. 3 doubles.
