Mitchell White wins two of three at Mid-Summer Classic

Jul. 10—SIOUX FALLS — Mitchell White had a successful opening day at the Mid-Summer Classic as they won two of three contests on Saturday at Harmodon Park.

Mitchell defeated Brookings 3-2 early in the afternoon, beat Southwest Minnesota Blaze 10-2 later in the evening and lost 7-1 to 5tool Sports Redemption in the nightcap.

In the afternoon contest against Brookings, Mitchell was trailing 2-0 heading into the bottom of the fourth inning before scoring three runs in the fourth and fifth inning to steal the win.

Lincoln Strange went 1-for-1 with two RBIs while Dawson Smith, Denen Ellwein, Mason Barchter and Dayton Adams had one hit each. Smith surrendered two earned runs on five hits and struck out three batters in four innings pitched. Strange struck out five batters in two innings pitched.

In the 10-2 win over Southwest Minnesota Blaze, Mitchell scored eight runs in the first two innings in a game that only required five innings.

Lincoln Bottum went 2-for-3 with four RBIs while Lincoln Strange, Denen Ellwein and Kaden Allen had one hit and one RBI each. Colin Weier went 2-for-2 at the plate and Avery Kaus went 1-for-1 with three runs scored. Kaus pitched three innings, striking out three batters and surrendering five hits. Lincoln Bottum pitched two innings, struck out three and surrendered four hits.

Brayden Rendil went 2-for-2 in Mitchell's loss to 5tool Sports Redemption, while Lincoln Bottum went 1-for-2 and Collin Weier scored the lone run. Kaden Allen pitched all four innings, surrendering seven earned runs and striking out three batters.
