Mitchell's Melanie Mullenmeister and Scott Loecker win at South Dakota Adult Open

Jul. 18—SIOUX FALLS — Mitchell's Melanie Mullenmeister and Scott Loecker won the combo 9.0 mixed 18-and-over doubles competition at the South Dakota Adult Open on Sunday.

The pair had a first-round bye before winning in the second round 6-3 and 6-1 to advance to the finals. In the championship, Mullenmeister and Loecker bested Saint Paul, Minnesota's Neal Gregerson and Sioux Falls' Hannah Gebauer 6-3 and 6-4 to claim the title.

Loecker also competed in the combo 9.0 men's 18-and-over doubles with his nephew, Tyler Loecker, who was the No. 1 doubles and No. 2 singles player for the Mitchell Kernels this past spring. The duo won the consolation championship in that bracket.

Mitchell's Chad Larson also won the consolation championship with Huron's Leah Branaugh in the combo 8.0 mixed 18-and-over doubles. In the combo 8.0 men's 18-and-over doubles bracket, Mitchell native Beau Brown and Milbank's Alex Cantine finished as consolation bracket champions.
